UPDATED DECEMBER 21, 2021
– Proof of a negative COVID test is now required one day prior to your return flight home.

If you are wondering when the Cayman Islands will reopen to tourists, the good news is that it’s closer than you think.

The Cayman Islands will reopen to fully-vaccinated tourists without quarantine on Saturday, November 20, 2021.

For now, unvaccinated children will not be permitted to travel upon reopening. While Cayman could relax this policy prior to the holidays, families with unvaccinated minors should not book until at least mid-January. Stay tuned.

Know Before You Go

Fully vaccinated travelers eager to return to the island upon reopening must provide the following:

  • ⇒ Proof of full 2-dose vaccination,
  • ⇒ Proof of a negative COVID test result taken no earlier than the day before travel; AZOVA at-home tests approved for entry,
  • ⇒ Pre-register travel and vaccination status with Travel Cayman, the government’s online travel portal, and
  • Submit to rapid lateral flow testing on Days 2, 5, and 7 while on-island.

The lateral flow testing requirement was announced by the government last week. While it might seem inconvenient, these tests are less invasive and only take 15-minutes to produce a result. These tests can be submitted to comply with the departure testing requirement if taken no earlier than one day before travel.

Flights to Cayman

flights to Grand Cayman
By February and March, most US airlines will have restored daily service to Grand Cayman.

JetBlue, Cayman Airways, British Airways, Air Canada, and WestJet have all scheduled weekly flights to Grand Cayman for mid-November and beyond. These will be the most reliable airlines for travelers returning to Grand Cayman.

Outlook for 2022

As we approach the holidays, we expect the number of direct flights from major US cities to increase considerably. United, American, Delta, and Southwest will begin direct service in time for Spring Break.

With more flights comes an increased demand for accommodations. And, we are already seeing early demand for summer 2022.

With Phase 5 underway, families with unvaccinated children can book confidently for Spring Break 2022 and beyond. If the LFT testing requirement is a deal-breaker for you, we recommend monitoring the situation until it is dropped. Local authorities are reviewing the need for LFT testing. We are hopeful that it will be dropped in the coming weeks.

Should the island close the borders again, or impose greater travel restrictions, our flexible cancellation policy has you covered. Under those scenarios, you can choose to either: 1). defer your stay at no cost for later in the year, or 2). request a full refund less a 3.50% processing fee. We don’t foresee that happening but crazier things have happened over the last 2 years.
